Scammers are like viruses: They continually evolve in response to the latest news and trends, using them for new ways to separate us from our cash. Americans aged 18-24 fell victim to fake check and money order scams, whereas Americans 65 and older were most commonly victims of tech support scams.
To help educate and protect anyone who is interested, the Village will be hosting “How to Know When You Are Being Scammed” on March 20 at 6 pm at Green Hills Foundation Hall. The Presentation will be by Shawn Suter owner of Your Hometown Techs. This event is free and open to the entire community. Topics to discuss: a) How to spot online scams and spam accounts including phone scams; b) What to do if you have been scammed; c) The most common types of scams currently: Payday Loan Scams, One-Time Password Bot Scams, IRS or Government Imposter Scams, Charitable Donations Scams, Phishing Emails, and the Grandparent Scams. Shawn will also answer audience questions. Please join us for an informative evening. |
