Hello all! We would like to update all of you on all the new things that we have going on with the WLBA! As we look back over the last year, we are all so thankful for the opportunities we have had to hold events, gather as a community, and operate our local businesses along the way. From 2022 to 2023, we were able to increase membership in the WLBA by 46%! We are so thankful for each one of you who chooses to be a part of our association and we hope we can continue to serve you and our community in every way that brings us together and brings commerce to all of us! We pray this letter once again finds each one of you in good health, prosperity, and joy! Let us take a moment to review some highlights of this year for the West Liberty Business Association and our Village, as well as some amazing events that are still to come in the last few months of 2023:
We provided updated promotional Save the Date Rack Cards as well as updated trifold brochures to be handed out promoting tourism in the village.
We provided mywestliberty bags filled with treats for garage sale days and during the Summer Street Market!
We are partnering with The Village of West Liberty and The Lions Club on more activities as well as the new Trolley to help with the parking issues with events.
We provided mywestliberty bags for all new residents who move to the village of West Liberty
We held the Hello Spring Shop Hop in March and had the Easter Bunny in partnership with the Lion’s Club
We held the Annual Dinner meeting January 19, 2023, at the Opera House
The Annual Fire Sales were held May 20th and we passed out mywestliberty bags and water.
We sponsored free hot dogs to children for the opening of the Splash Pad
We continued to work with the Village and Historical Society and Piatt Castle on continued joint endeavors.
We planned and promoted The Summer Street Market and Car Show on June 24th! This took place the same weekend as The Force Ball Tournament, the Lion's Club Fish Fry, and the Fireworks – it included local vendors and food trucks, more than 90 cars/motorcycles, stores stayed open late, and we had two live musicians who provided music entertainment all day!
We held the 1st Annual Summer Garden Tour on July 16, and it was an enormous success! We are already planning for next year’s event!
We sponsored the Country Legends Concert Series concert September 2nd and gave away our two seats to two members of the WLBA as a benefit of being a member!
We organized the Fall Open Houses for businesses in September.
Provided our first ever scholarship that was awarded to Owen Harrison! This will now be an annual scholarship for West Liberty Salem for an entrepreneur!
We partnered with the Village of West Liberty and West Liberty Salem for the PINK OUT EVENT in the Village on Sept 28 for Paint LOCO Pink where we held a Health Fair FREE to the public! Football players and cheerleaders ate with the youth for free at the fire house, and we sponsored the PINK OUT GAME at WL-S on October 6 for the WL-S game vs. Burg! We were able to donate a check for $1,930!
We formed a new Trick or Treat committee and held the second annual Spooktacular event in downtown West Liberty. It was a TREMENDOUS success again thanks to the same incredible committee on October 26, 2023!
We sponsored and decorated the Logan County Branch Library window in downtown West Liberty in November, and we are selling tickets for the Snowflake Basket!
We are planning and promoting West Liberty Christmas in the Village events including Christmas Open Houses to be held Nov. 3 & 4, the Christmas Parade and luminaries, Black Friday, and Small Business Saturday Nov 24 & 25 as well as the Tour of Homes scheduled for December 9 from 4-8 P.M.
We worked with the Village Council to institute a Business of the Month for West Liberty to recognize local businesses and that has been a remarkable success and an opportunity for the community to learn about our local businesses.
We have continued membership spotlights on the village website and on our Facebook page.
The members of the Board would like to extend a special THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered their time and resources over the past years! We could not accomplish all this without you. We want more of you to please get involved with us and help us do even more next year! We love fresh ideas and opinions! We are excited to continue working closely with other local organizations, including the Village Council, the Lion’s Club, the Historical Society, the Country Legends Concert Series, the Logan County Chamber and Visitor’s Bureau, the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, among others to improve our community. This cooperation has helped to better the community and increase the number of visitors to our town – which only means increased revenues to you.
We hope you will continue to support the West Liberty Business Association and renew your membership (see attached form and options). We are once again offering sponsorship packages so you can choose what best suits your needs, your financial ability and what works best to highlight your business on mywestliberty.com and to promote your business at our annual dinner.
We meet on the second or fourth Thursday (as schedules allow) of each month at 5:30 P.M. at The Mad River Farm Market. (This day of the week may vary) We are always looking for members to get involved in event planning, and leadership roles, and it is a fantastic opportunity to get your business name out there. We understand that your time is precious and as business owners we often don’t have extra time, but even if you are able to be on a small committee board it would be so helpful to those of us who are working hard to revitalize the events that keep our village relevant, lively and a destination spot! We have positions available on the following committees:
Membership Drive Garden Tour Summer Street Market and Car Show Luminary Fall Run Black Friday and Small Business Saturday Spooktacular! Christmas Parade Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes
It is the goal of the Board of Directors to support all our businesses in ways that benefit the entire West Liberty community. The more memberships we have, the more we can pour into the Village events and into the local businesses of West Liberty, bringing commerce and traffic into our local economy.
This year we have two positions which are up for renewal on our executive board. They are:
Member at Large: Tami Cox Secretary: Brenda Snyder
If you would like to nominate someone for one of these positions, please email us and let us know. We will be voting at the annual dinner.
*Tami Cox is interested in keeping her position as the Member at Large*
Respectfully and Dutifully Yours,
Your West Liberty Business Association Board of Directors: Heather Chamberlain (Theresa’s Gingerbread House), President Linda Vernon (Vernon Farms), Vice President Brittany McElroy (Civista), Treasurer Brenda Snyder (All About Stitches) Secretary Tami Cox (Country Friends of Ohio), Member at Large
