Sat. Sep. 21, 2024, 9am-12pm: Mad River Clean-upThe Trout Unlimited Mad River Chapter invites the community to join us for a large-scale cleanup of the Mad River on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This effort will cover the stretch from West Liberty Park (Lions Ball Park) to Mad River Gorge Park in Clark County, focusing on improving water quality, preserving the river’s natural beauty, and protecting local wildlife habitats. Volunteers are needed to help remove litter and debris from the areas around the bridges and access areas. Volunteers will not need to get in the water. Volunteers should meet at the US 36 bridge west of Urbana.
Why It Matters Litter along the Mad River is an ongoing issue that negatively impacts both the environment and the local community. With increased instances of open dumping, particularly around the US-36 bridge area, maintaining a clean and safe river is more important than ever. By participating in this cleanup, volunteers can make a positive difference and help ensure continued access for future outdoor recreation and conservation efforts. Join Us! All are welcome to participate in this event. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, make new connections, and give back to the environment. We recommend bringing gloves, wearing closed-toed shoes, long pants and long sleeve shirts, and preparing for a fun and rewarding morning. If you’d like to get involved or learn more, please contact Paul Cicconetti at [email protected]. By coming together for this event, we can protect the Mad River and make a lasting impact on the community. We look forward to seeing everyone there! Detroit St.), Bethel Mennonite Church (416 Washington St.), near the old Tiger Hut (412 W. Baird St.) and Thoman's IGA (201 S. Detroit St.).
