April 5-8, 2024: MoonShade FestivalWest Liberty, Ohio is in the path of a total solar eclipse in 2024. The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806, and we won't see another total solar eclipse in our state until the year 2099!
The eclipse will begin in West Liberty when the moon begins to block out the southwest side of the sun at 1:52:13 PM EDT. on Monday, April 8, 2024. The total solar eclipse will be visible in West Liberty starting at 3:10:06 PM EDT and will last 4 minutes and 27 seconds. Celebrate the total solar eclipse with all of our small town charm during a 3-day Moonshade Festival! Three night camping (Friday through Monday) at Lions Park is available for the total price of $150. ~Friday night FIREWORKS in the park ~Saturday celebration of the "Harmless Farmer" Andy Detwiler ~Sunday Night Dancing with the Stars competition in the restored Opera House ~Monday is the total solar eclipse. |
Sunday, April 7, 2024, 5:30pm: Star Crossed Love and the Bridge Dance CompetitionDoors open at 5:30 pm in the Opera House in West Liberty. Competition starts at 6 pm. Light refreshments will be served. $10 tickets may be purchased at West Liberty's Town Hall in advance. Tickets will be $15 at the door. (A limited number of tickets will be sold.) Proceeds go to the Columbus Street Bridge. Come vote for your favorite dancers. Votes are $1 each.

11:00 am - 3:00 pm Free Outdoor Event Experience the Total Solar Eclipse at Piatt Castle Mac-A-Cheek located south of the centerline of the path through Ohio. Attend a watch party in an open lawn or view from a select spot for photographers who wish to capture beautiful images at a unique location. A representative from the Cincinnati Observatory Center will be available to discuss connections between the Piatt family and the Observatory's founding, the Observatory's role in scientific understanding of solar eclipses, and to answer questions about the country's oldest public observatory and solar eclipses. |

Sat. May 18, 2024: WEST LIBERTY'S ANNUAL FIRE SALESWest Liberty's Annual Fire Sales are usually held the 3rd Saturday in May. Sales start early Saturday morning and continue through about 5pm.
Promote your fire sales in the Official Facebook Event. (Link coming soon!) During the Saturday Fire Sales, the West Liberty Business Association provides port-o-johns for our visitors at 4 locations: CT Communications building (205 N. Detroit St.), Bethel Mennonite Church (416 Washington St.), near the old Tiger Hut (412 W. Baird St.) and Thoman's IGA (201 S. Detroit St.). There are also public restrooms at Town Hall and Lions Club Park. The "Fire Sales" refer to the town fire disaster of 1880. The fire started in a barn and spread through town destroying many businesses and several homes. It was the worst in village history, and the town rallied to support the residents and business owners who lost nearly everything in the fire. |
Sat. May 25, 2024, 10am-12pm: Splash Pad Opening DayThe Splash Pad Grand Opening is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. In 2024, that will be Saturday, May 25th from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM. The first 50 kids will receive goodie bags and the West Liberty Fire Department will be there with fire trucks, along with the Macochee Joint Ambulance and West Liberty Police Dept.
The Ohio Academy of Pediatrics - Put A Lid On It Campaign donated bike helmets AND Logan County Family and Children First Council will be hosting a Ice Cream Social during this event. It is a free event. |

The West Liberty Fourth of July firework show is 100% funded by local donations, and we are in need of donations for the next show. Dec. 2024 - West Liberty Village Christmas Lights ContestEveryone living within the 43357 West Liberty Zip Code is encouraged to decorate the outside of their home for West Liberty's Annual Christmas Lights Contest. On a designated evening in December, residents and village visitors are encouraged to walk or drive around the community to enjoy and share pictures of the #wlchristmaslights.
There will be also be a West Liberty Business Association committee that will go around the village on the designated evening to vote on all houses that have registered. Please find contest rules and a registration form here. The top 3 decorated homes as determined by the committee will win Liberty Bucks to be spent shopping locally just in time for the holidays! |
