Christmas Trees
Old fashioned Christmas celebrations featured wax candles on live tree branches – inside homes! Today we know better, but risks still remain. If your family prefers real trees, be sure to water yours every day because dry needles and wood catch fire more easily. Go ahead and use many strings of light, but don’t plug more than 3 strings into each other (opt for a power strip instead). Discard light strings that are worn or broken. And be sure to always unplug the lights before leaving the house or going to sleep.

Re: Purple Heart Veterans Event – Spring 2022
As we move forward into 2022, we would like to invite you and your families to be a part of these events that we have planned to honor those who have received the distinguished honor of the purple heart. The Ohio Military Order of the Purple Heart will bestow on April 4 or 11 at the Village Council meeting, the proclamation making us a Purple Heart Community. Watch our Town Sign and mywestliberty.com for the specific information for this event.
In March, we will hold a 2-day event to allow all Purple Heart Veterans and or their families to share a story or memories about their service/time in the military. Videos time will be limited to 10 minutes. We would like to record these stories and upload them to our www.mywestliberty.com website and then eventually have them shown in the West Liberty Historical Society - Bailey House so they would be archived for future generations and visitors to the village.
The 2 days of video recording will take place on Sunday, March 27th from 2:30-6:30pm and Tuesday, March 29th from 11am - 3pm. Those days and times will be divided into 20-minute time slots to record the 10-minute videos. Please contact Sherry Barger to register for a time slot at s.barger@mywestliberty.com or call her at 937-603-0569.
On Memorial Day at 11:00 am in the Opera House at the Town Hall, we will recognize our newest Purple Heart Veterans and Donut Dollies (donuts and coffee). Then we would like to do a “Meet and Greet” with each Veteran or Family Member of having their own table to display their pictures, memorabilia, uniform or anything else our veterans are willing to share with the public from 11:30 am-1:30 pm. Set up with memorabilia will be at 10:00 am. Tables will be provided. This would allow the community to go from table to table and talk one on one with each Purple Heart Veteran or Family Members. We wanted a more personal approach to the veterans or families sharing stories. We want to preserve what we have for future generations to understand the sacrifice made by our military veterans. The West Liberty Memorial Day Parade will start at 2 pm so we will end this event in time for everyone to see or be a part of the parade.
Please contact Larry Lance 937-465-6560 about parade information or if you would like to participate in the West Liberty Memorial Day Parade.
We hope that you and your family will be able to join us for these events. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the committee members listed below with contact information. We thank you for your service and appreciate any time you are willing to give to these projects.

In recent years this home served as the headquarters of the West Liberty Police Department, but in 2016 the police force no longer needed it and a public appeal was made to save the home as one of the oldest in the village. Herb McClain, great-great-grandson of George Bailey gave a large donation for restoration of the home so it can be turned it into a museum, the West Liberty History Center. Members of the History Center Committee will be on hand during the tour. |

The first stop on the tour is the historic Town Hall in beautiful downtown West Liberty. Renovation is well underway on the second floor of the Town Hall in what was once the opera house and has been closed to the public in the 1940s. When construction is complete, this second story space will be reopened as a Community Center for musicals, recitals, dramas, lectures and other entertaining and information programs, as well as for private and corporate gatherings. |
