The West Liberty Business Association (WLBA) is proud to recognize Theresa’s Gingerbread House, LLC Childcare Centers, owned and operated by Heather Chamberlain, as the April Business of the Month.
With locations in Urbana and West Liberty, Theresa’s Gingerbread House has been serving families for 36 years, providing high-quality childcare rooted in strong values and a deep commitment to child development. What began as a small, in-home daycare founded by Heather’s mother, Theresa Cox, has grown into a trusted childcare provider serving Champaign and Logan Counties. Built on a Christian-based, traditional philosophy, Theresa’s Gingerbread House focuses on helping children grow through a balance of play, structure, and love. Their programs are designed to support children’s mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual development, ensuring they are well-prepared for kindergarten and beyond. Heather credits her mother’s determination and faith as the foundation for the business’s success. “With hard work, tenacity, and God’s grace, we have expanded and grown over the years,” she shared. A key part of what makes Theresa’s Gingerbread House unique is its presence in the community. It is currently the only state-licensed childcare facility in the Village of West Liberty, filling an essential need for local families. Heather’s passion for community involvement is evident. She serves as President of the West Liberty Business Association and actively participates in numerous organizations and events, including the West Liberty Lion’s Club, the West Liberty Historical Society, and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library’s Power of the Purse Committee. Her commitment is simple: “Just ask, I’ll help.” The childcare centers also give back in meaningful ways. One standout tradition is their annual children-led bake sale and lemonade stand, where proceeds are used to support local businesses through educational community tours. Children visit and engage with establishments such as Stoner’s Ice Cream Parlor, Marie’s Candies, and the local fire and police departments—creating both learning opportunities and community connections. Additionally, the organization adopts families in need during the holiday season and supports a wide range of local initiatives, including schools, athletics, historical societies, and community events. For Heather, the most rewarding part of her work is the daily impact. “I love the families we get to interact with, the children we get to impact, and the joy we encounter every day. Every night, I go home knowing we are making a difference.” When asked what this recognition means, Heather shared, “It is an honor to be named Business of the Month. I love this community and am thankful to be a part of it.” She also expressed gratitude to those who have supported the journey: her mother for paving the way, her dedicated staff, her family, and her faith. Theresa’s Gingerbread House is currently enrolling for its summer program, with limited availability at its West Liberty location. Families are encouraged to call 937-653-8006 or 937-650-8006 or visit www.theresasgingerbreadhouse.com to learn more or schedule a tour. Congratulations to Theresa’s Gingerbread House Childcare Centers on this well-deserved recognition! |
