West Liberty Business of the Month
 We would like to congratulate The West Liberty Historical Society for being selected as the West Liberty Business Association’s October 2024 Business of the Month. The West Liberty Historical Society features 2 locations: The Historical Opera House is located at 201 N. Detroit Street, in the upstairs of the Town Hall, and the Bailey House History Center is located at 112 E. Columbus Street, both in the heart of West Liberty.
The current organization was started in 2001. The Opera House was opened in 2022. They currently have no employees but lots of great volunteers. Previously, there was a Historical Society in West Liberty, and there were other efforts to revitalize West Liberty and restore the Town Hall that were related to the current Historical Society. After acquiring the Bailey House from the Village, the Historical Society broadened its mission from focusing on the Restoration of a single structure to documenting the History of the Village. They are working to establish a history center that has a small collection of artifacts and can tell the story of West Liberty. They also maintain a website that has historical information about West Liberty. The group is organized as a non-profit. The Historical Society meets once a month on the last Wednesday of the month to discuss various topics about West Liberty history. This organization works with the West Liberty Lions Club, the West Liberty Business Association, as well as the Village on community wide events. The Opera House even serves as the location for some of these events. The favorite thing most mentioned by visitors is the reproduced painted ceiling in the Opera House.
